Default 14b weird sound and no bov?

I finally took my civic for a drive with the 14b setup all hooked up. Got rid of all the oil leaks, and everything looks good.

The first gear went beatiful pulled decently strong could hear the turbo spool up then psssshhh heard the awesome sound of the bov. Then I put it in second and it seemed really really weak, and no BOV sound.

Found some exhaust leaks where bolts had loosened during the install and first drive. Got them all tight, checked everything looks good.

Problem,

was sounding decent, pulling better (not great) and still no BOV sound, then the car started making a weird sound when I accelerated, best I can describe the sound is if you lightly touched your fingers to a fan blade.

I need a part from the store to install my boost gauge otherwise I would have some reading from it.

Any ideas? Also the turbo doesn't apear to have any shaft play, a little oil in the charge pipe but seemed to go away, and I have not installed check valves yet (and no check engine light yet), very bizarre, I am clueless

No BOV, pulling very weak, and weird sound?

sorry I know the description sucks, but best I can do...

thank in advance.

1. Barrings are going or about to go.

OR/AND

2. You have a leak somewhere.

How can I test if it is the barrings going out, and what can I do to fix the problem? New turbo?

Could an small exhaust leak at the header produce these effects? I am having a hard time getting one of the bolts really tight.

Thanks again..

This is what I thought at first to since he boosted just fine in first gear with a BOV sound. So I'm sure you have a leak somewhere.

Well if the barrings are getting loose than you would have shaft play somewhat. You say you don't have any. As for a fan hitting a finger noise if it isn't the turbine in the turbo than it could be your Radiator fan hitting somewhere. BTW fix that leak in your manifold.

One more thing list your complete setup. Top to Bottom and engine too.

All of the charge pipes are connected (I will check them for holes or leaks tonight) and tight. I think the leak might be coming from the exhaust manifold so I am going to take that off tonight and retighten everything really tight.

I have a d16z6 with a
14b turbo
hf manifold
adapter plate
custom downpipe
oil line kit
sidemount intercooler
rc 440 injectors
walbro fuel pump
apex vtec-afc (temporary)
5zigen catback
freeflow cat
right now mainly using 1st gen eclipse charge pipes
plx m500 wideband
All I can think of off the top of my head...

thanks again...

If it is a leak than what is that noise that you're talking about??

My best guess would be the sound of the un-muffled exhaust coming out at the header.

I just can't think of anything else

well problem is simple just go out and buy a new or used internal wastegate, from any tdo5/14b,16g,20g. and say goodbye to your problems.

hmmn that could makes sense. So do you think all of the boost is going through vacum hose and leaking out of the wastegate?

The arm to the waste gate was very hard for me to move, when I first got the turbo.

And where is the best place to find a new wastegate actuator for the 14b?

All I can find is for t3 and t25

I just did the same setup only with a 16g. It pulls awesome, do you have any problems with a CEL? Just curious, I had to put in 3 check valves to get rid of it. Can't wait to get these injectors and fuel pump in, it has only been running for one day, so they will go in tomorrow. Boost is great.

gap your plugs to 30, remove the top port to your wastegata (if you have one) connect the bottom nipple to the turbos nipple or other boost source, then make sure your bov has a good vacuum source such as vacuum manifold off brake booster, or its own nipple on the intake manifold. This should solve your problems

heh heh ewww...

found the problem. The actuator arm some how got knocked off the wastegate. I put it back on and used a saftey pin to hold it on.

now I got me some boost I am going to clean everything up a little nicer tommorow, strip the interior at the same time as taking my huge box, heavy *** subs and dvd player out.

should be fun! I have a 3rd gen rx7 and I need to make my civic faster

without spending money, what a rare rare thing...

DIY turbo is soo cheap, until you start thinking about all of the little things but I feel very satisfied in knowing I did it myself

well if you still have that fan blade sound then i am almost positive it is because of your manifold not being bolted down tight to the head. I forgot to bolt mine down when I changed my headgasket the other day(they were just hand tight ) and it made a sound exactly like that. Also you shouldn't need any check valves at all. Your fuel setup sounds like you are running the afc hack which doesn't require check valves. If you were running a fuel setup that did then you would have been throwing codes a long time ago.
