Default internal wastegate porting

I will be porting the wastegate of my td05 18g. It will not hold 14psi steady so I will jump on the dsm bandwagon. TRE sells 34mm flappers for the 16g's but not for the 18g's. Has anyone modified the greddy turbo this way? This is my only option to keep this power level. I priced out a e/l manifold, wastegate and t3/t4 but it's too much $ when I already spent thousands on this setup.

If the internal wastegate is no longer hacking it, it is easy enough to add an external wastegate flange and wire the internal closed.

The problem is adding an external to the greddy manifold will probably wreck it because it is cast iron and very brittle.

I have an external wastegate on my greddy manifold. It fixed my boost creep. 38mm Tial.

edit: Also, my internal wastegate is tack welded shut.

Yes. I've got both.

At my first HPDE the dump tube on the wastegate fell off, and the hot exhaust burned a hole in my A/C line. Whoops! I got a new one ($40?) and refilled the freon, and it blows cold again Of course, in Chicago we've been using our heaters lately.

in order to have a good weld on a cast irom manifold, u need to take it to a good 350-400 degrees, and keep it there for 15 minutes....

weld the parts while its hot, and keep it hot after the weld for 12 hrs, while periodically reducing the temp during the 12hrs until its pretty cool at the end of that time

local shop does it many times and weld never crack

You can use nickel rod to weld steel to cast iron. I do short stitch welds and tap the weld area with a small hammer as it cools. I use one of those small cheap propane torches to preheat the work piece a little bit before I start and between stitches. Seems to work ok.

If you end up porting it, post up some pics. I wanna see what you do.
