Short Shifter squeaking??
hey
I put in a short shifter last nite... some of the bolts were kinda hard to get out(thanks to canadian winters) but other than that everything went pretty smoothly.. now the only problem I have is that it squeaks every time i shift.. and i have no idea what it is. I coated the ball pretty good with some lithium grease, maybe I didnt put enough though, i really dont know, thats where it sounds like its coming from.
does anyone have any idea what kinda things I should check out for squeaking? also, how hard should it be to shift? should it be like a tight shift where I actually have to use some force to move it.. or should it be just a little bit harder than stock? in which case the bolt to the linkage is probably too tight
thanks a lot for the help

You may have tighten some of the bolts to tight because if you check the torque on some of them they really arent that high and yes shifter should be a little bit more difficult but not a lot
Yeah, dont over-torque the bolts, they need play so that the bearings can easily move around. Also, check the grommets and the bushings on the linkage and the bottom of the shifter. If you got a squeak then metal is rubbing rubber somewhere. There's only 1 or 2 areas that theres rubber, check those, bath them in lithium grease and your set. - Darrell
