i am looking for a good size intercooler piping at work we have a 3in. aluminum tube with an inner diameter of 2.5in. could i use this or would it hurt my performance...

 

I use 2.5" piping on my setup. I believe the standard drag kits come with 2.25". I recommend 2.5". What are your hp goals?

 

Most intercoolers have 2.5 OD openings. I ordered 2.5" OD piping to do my home made piping. I don't know about the 3" thing. It would work, but I've seen posts here that say a 3" charge pipe would slow down your spool time a little bit after shifting by a few hundredths of a second. I don't see a big problem with using 3" myself. Maybe somebody else will throw in their $.02 for ya.

 

yeah i think u are prolly correct with the lag.. i will most likely just have some piping made for me or buy one from somewhere is there a place that sells mandrel bent intercooler piping?

The 1/4" walls on your alu pipe are super excessive. I'de just buy 3 16g steel mandrel Js for like 60 bucks and be done with it.

 

well here is the reason i mentioned that size pipe...i work at a factory that makes parts that use that size piping...i can make my piping out of that for free..and so my question was just if it would be beneficial. if i had a choice anyways i would venture to say that aluminum would be the smartest metal to use...lighter and disperses heat better

 

what are your HP goals?

 

i am trying focus on the 300hp range and try to get that as low in the powerband as i can i dont want to have to rev to 9k to get 300hp ya know what i mean..i guess my main goal is to eventually hit 11s when the susp.is setup pretty nice...the engine will be a 2.0L lsvtec with stock GSR head and forged internals rebuilt like its brand ****** new. but yeah basically i wanna get some very low spool times and prolly max out at 300hp. help is very needed i know about turbos and stuff but i dont know what makes a GOOD turbo setup other than quality products if that makes any sense.

 

2.5" will be perfect for you...

 

any other suggestions for my hopes of low spool? how small of a turbo would you recommend?

 

if ur looking for low spool use as less intercooler piping as possible and a intercooler that isnt very long... also a 2.25" turbo to intercooler pipe would help

 

so are u saying 2.25 turbo to intercooler and 2.5 from intercooler to intake? that sucks about the intercooler they look so cool lol
