its a simple solder job...go to any electronics repair store (preferably something small)...you just have to unsolder the chip thats in there...solder in a socket (and a zif you want one...get all parts before taking it there though) and soler in the chip. the labor shouldnt run you more than ... say $20. we sometimes do it for free...or for %5 or $10...depends on how the customer acts.

ok well i was thinking of doing like an engine management system (uberdata)...you would replace the chip on the ecu with a socket (plug a chip straight in, but can be difficult to plug in..bend the chips legs, etc) so you stick a ZIF socket on top of that (has a lever..like your cpu socket...also you stick the ZIF on top for clearence reasons) then you stick your burnt chip in the ZIF and presto..you can quickly change chips out. if you have a speed chip or some crap like that...i guess you could just solder it straight into the board. solder wick and some flux and a soldering iron, and you could have the chip out in 5 mins. soldering it in would take another 2 min. but if you dont know what you're doing you could **** the board up...but yeah.

unfortunatly those ******* in japan were designing a family car that was fuel effecient and cost effective

chipping a 4cyl with a "Jet" or other sorta off the shelf chip is a waste of money

Sounds like that 'chip' overloaded your car with horsepower

make sure you lined the key up...you probably have the chip in *** backwards. in most circuits an IC's key is like a half moon. if you are looking at the pins of an IC and the key is facing up (half moon or some dot in the middle of one end of the IC pointing up) the lower left pin is pin 1. very rarely the board will simply give you pin numbers and no key. the pins then count up from the lower left to upper left...upper right and finally to the lower right most pin, which is the last pin.
