Shifting seems sloppy/gooey
Hello everyone. I did a search but it didn't turn up anything.
I have a 2001 Honda Civic EX with a 5 speed transmission - 56k miles.
Earlier this year when it got really cold out, I noticed that when shifting gears it became a little difficult, as if the shifter was enclosed in sludge/goo. It was no longer crisp. After a week or so, it was back to normal. Then another week or two later, it got bad again and has been that way ever since. Almost feels like there's mud or something in the gears - hard to explain. It's just not smooth anymore when shifting. I usually have to play with the shifter to get it to go in gear.
However, it NEVER grinds when going into gear.
Is this something as something as maybe a messed up shift cable or something getting in it's way? or having to change the tranny fluid (I haven't changed this yet)? Any recommendations are welcome.
Jesse

go ahead and pick up some honda MTF and do a fluid change... have the fluid ever been changed before? sounds like you may have the wrong kind of fluid in there
