Default Suspension Misunderstanding

sup, im a newbie

I never really understood exactly how suspension and aftermarket suspension works.

What is the difference between springs and shocks?
What are struts?
What are coilovers?

Thanks

Just buy yourself a suspension book. Search for High performance handling handbook.

Springs absorb the shock over bumps and control how much the car leans to the side in a turn.

Shocks are a spring/strut combo, basically an assembled suspension.

Struts are what stop the springs from bouncing and bring them back to a resting state. They greatly influence handling.

Coil overs are either built into an aftermarket strut, or slip over a strut. They let you adjust the resting point of the springs on the strut in order to adjust the ride height of the vehicle.
