whats up guys i just purchased a turbo kit. its a turbonetics turbo with a polished chrome housing. i dont know how to tell the specs on it. he said its a E trim but he wasnt 100% sure. is the housing on a E trim bigger then a B trim or are the internals just different? is there a way to count the fins i heard the e trim has more. any help is appreciated.

 

I believe that the housings are very similar( if not the same). The E trim has more fins and at a more acute angle, thus offering superior efficiency on higher reving engines. B imo is better suited for lower reving/boost apps. Someone correct me if im wrong. My memory is weak and misinformation is the second leading cause of stupidity.

 

Each family of compressors comes from a certain family, for example the T04E or T04B family. Each family has their own trim. But with out going into great detail about that a T04E will have 6 blades, or 12 total with the sub-blades. The T04B has 7 blades, or 14 sub-blades. In order to find the trim you can measure the Major (larger part of the wheel diamter) and inducer (smaller part of the compressor wheel.)

 

And on the housings the unit is AR. For example .50AR, .60AR and .70AR. For some reason, and I don't know why because I think it confuses people more, the gave a compressor family to each housing. For example, the 50AR is also known as the T04B or "B" cover, .60AR is the T04E or just "E" cover and .70AR is known as the T04S. To me its just easier to say .50, .60 or .70AR.

I have a Garrett t40E and it has 6 blades and my friend t40B has a 7 blade turbonetics. And i believe the t40E trim is a little bit bigger than the t40B.
