oil change? year 2000 s2000
40 is a bit too heavy unless you have ungodly amount of miles and are burning oil quickly.
the higher the range, the faster it will break down. 0w-30, 5w-30 and 10w-30 are oil weights I'd recommend sticking to.

you'll be okay running that.

Was watching the BMI VTEC Club dvd. Chief guy from Spoon recommends changing gearbox oil every time you change engine oil! He had good reasoning though. He said that oil is pressurised, filtered and pumped round the engine, whereas gearbox oil just bathes the transmssion. Perhaps doing that would prolong the life of the synchromeshes?

unless the gears are grinded and the car is driven very hard in hot climates with banked turns regularly, I don't see a need for changing the tranny oil that often unless we're talking about a track only car.

For the sake of a few quid per year, would you really take that chance? I'd apply that advice for the diff as well. And besides, do you not think the head guy at Spoon knows his stuff? At the place I used to work, i'd do over 130mph on the way there and back every day for about 5-6 mins continuously. I'm quite confident that the particulate matter suspended in the gearbox oil effected the synchros enough to reduce longevity.

As far as Spoon Sports knowing their stuff, sure, they do. BUT, just because they, as a race-geared team do things, does that mean we all should? Absolutely NOT.
As far as driving 130mph to work, well, that was your own peroggative. No one made you do that, and it certainly doesn't sound like an intelligent thing to do.

The topic was road cars though! Like I said, for the sake of about £20($35)/year, you'd be daft not too, especially if you drive with any kind of enthusiasm. Maybe it'll save you shelling out for a rebuild later on. When you come to sell the car on I think it'd be a positive, showing sympathy for the vehicle. I mean when someone buy's a second hand S, they know its been 'driven'.
Everyone cruises at 85mph over here. I usually drive at about 100-110. On the way to work was a great time for giving it stick as the adrenalin would set you up for the day. IMHO, there shouldn't be a speed limit on motorways. I mean at 3 lanes wide, even doing 150 seems like your going nowhere!

Well then, It seems to be for you then you've got a good system figured out.
As for me, in my own world, I'll continue to believe what I believe and do what I do. I was just stating my opinions, as were you.
I've never been to Wales, but there sure aren't any places to travel at 100mph, let alone 130+mph, here in my area.
At any rate....cheers!

take what chance? I have ZERO tranny issues, no grinding, no noise, no clunkiness. Nothing. I've run nothing but honda MTL in the tranny. By changing it out often in a street vehicle, you are only lightening your wallet, not reducing the chances of gear box failure or increasing the life of the tranny. The fluid has a certain life, it may break down sooner under harsh conditions but the breakdown of the oil doesn't mean you have zero protection. Don't forget that new BMW's and Benz's have sealed automatic trannies where fluid changes wont happen. Engine oils, tranny oils, oils in general have come a LONG way in lasting longer and providing better protection over longer service intervals.

Enthusiasm doesn't equal abuse. Same can be said about spirited. If you want the car to last, don't abuse it. If you drive your car like a race car, expect parts to wear out and fail like a race car...which happens to be often due to high stress and sometimes driver error. I would say in your case where you drive to work at 130mph, any car you drive will experience accelerated wear and tear. Some will tolerate it better than others.
