Okay so my dumbass completely forgot about my Oil change interval because I had my windshield replaced and the sticker wne twith the old windshield.
I instantly went home to change my oil just to be safe and I know that i was at least a 1000miles over.
Once I changed the oil i decided to check and see how much oil came out the car. So i poured it into the quart containers and it only filled up 2 quarts.
I think i was close to 2000 miles over once i saw how thin the oil was.
My question is. Would thin oil equal less quarts because oil is usually thicker when first poured into the engine? It was 10w30 non synthetic oil. Does 2 quarts sound about right when the car takes 5?
Im not burning any oil or anything like that. The car runs like a champ and doesnt smoke except the little black puffs in between shifts.
I just switched to synthetic.

wow. Only 2 came out?!!!!
I'm surprised you didn't get an oil pressure light. The S2000 burns oil...that's just how the motor runs. I have to add at least a quart every 3,000 miles.
Check the oil level more often! And keep in mind on the S2000 dip stick you MUST wipe the stick off before re-inserting and checking the level! since it has crosshatch on the dip of the dipstick if you just let it settle cold and check the level it shows way more oil than is actually in there!

Yea only 2 came out lol. The oil light would come on if i did some hard braking but other than that it stayed off.
Im guessing since the oil wasnt changed for so long it got thinner over time. That means that more can be added into a quart container as opposed to a container with thick oil.
Density difference?
The car doesnt really burn any oil lol. No blue smoke or anytime.
I just want to see if anyone else has experienced oil being low when changed and the oil being thin was the culprite for less oil.

Motor oil tends to get thicker over time, not thinner, as some ingredients cook off (think sludge). If the motor was cold, then I'd say you ony got two quarts out because you were low on oil, and left a lot of oil in the car because it was cold, espcially in the filter.
S2000's burn oil because of the massive intake vacuum that pulls oil from the valve cover through the PCV.
I wouldn't worry about begin over with regular dino-oil, and even less so with synthetic. Oil change intervals are very conservative, and in reality, average driving considitions are fine a lot more miles than the dealer or an oil-change shop will tell you.

I think this is a common thing. When I checked with the quys on H/T, they said it's normal for the S to use oil. Mine doesn't smoke either but it uses about a quart and a half every 3000 miles. I switched to Royal Purple at around 35kmi and it didn't change at all.

i also switched to royal purple and it made no difference, the car still goes through about a quart in about 2000 miles. i check my oils religously now and i live in vtec

were you on a big incline when you jacked it up?some oil could be sitting in the pan... next time warm her up and then drain out the oil... see where your at...
Thinner oil doesn't make a difference on the amount that you would get out. You were pretty low. Honda cars do tend to use some oil when you rip on them. You just need to get in a habit of checking the oil more often. Using a high quality oil, will help prevent the burnoff though. One other suggestion, its best if you change the oil with the car warm so that all of the old oil drains out.
