Default HELP: Overheating problem... what do you think it is...

Ok, heres the deal. I was coming home from the bottom tonight (clubbin), and when i get up to speed ( >55) my car temp gauge drops, but when i slow down, it rises. So when I get home, i let the car sit for a second, and the temp gauge rises to the H mark... I dont wanna crack my block or anything by letting it overheat...

The ONLY thing that I can think of is that my cooling fan isn't engaging properly... what are some posibilities of this ? I wasn't able to check my coolant level due to the heat, but I can smell coolant, but its not too strong... the overflow tank isn't full, so i dont know.

Help me out, because my other car is in the transmission shop for at least a week and I need to find this problem. Is there a fuse that could possibly be blown that the cooling fan is attached to?

First, make sure you have enough coolant. And no air bubbles in the system.

If the fans aren't running, there's a couple reasons.

Blown fuse. Bad relay. Corroded or loose wiring. Bad fan switch.

'94 Integra?? The fan switch is in the thermostat housing. Unplug it & jumper the plug with a paper clip. Key on, that should make the fans run. If that works, then the fuses, relays, & wiring is all OK. That leaves a bad fan switch as the only problem. That check only takes 20 seconds so you may as well do that first.

If that's not it you can break out the multi-meter & wiring drawing.

I had the same problem. Turned out to be my radiator hoses. I kept smelling coolant and could not figure out where it was coming from. Turned out to be a small cut on the underside of the upper hose. But rundown of things to do

1. Check fan switch
2. Check hoses
3. Turn on heater. Are you blowing cold air or warm air? IF no warm air is blowing out, thermostat. Also, if cold air is blowing out when you are at a stand still and warm air only blows out upon acceleration, it's the thermos.
4. Radiator Cap...all intact?
5. Radiator blockage? Maybe a quick flush!

I had a similar problem...only my fans and radiator were fine...the problem ended up being the ECT switch on the head itself ( by the distributor) it was all corroded and stuff....so I just got a new one and everything is fine....not sure it this will help...but it's just another option
