Default Engine compression

I'm looking at an engine right now that I might buy. It's a 93 D16Z6 vtec from a civic si. I checked it out and it seems to be in quite good condition. When I checked the compression, it read 165 155 170 170. Is it good? I'm not planning in building it much anyways. I need some input on this.

my d16a6 compression in an engine with 250,000 miles on it (no joke) had 185psi in each cylinder. If you're getting less than 160psi, you should check things, make sure your valve seats and/or piston rings are all seating properly.

I've got comp readings in the 160-165 area on my Z6. Also figure I've been running NOS for 1.5 years now (20+ bottles!).

Eric B's B16A page said 185-135...personally i'd never touch anything lower than 160.

pull the oil cap and take a good look. sludge means poor maintenance. If it was clean and well maintained, i'd buy it.

yes it is good. I must add that my readings were taken with cam retarded 3-4 degrees which will lower static numbers. I bet no with cam advanced 3 degrees (winter tuneup) I would get 185+ psi on a comp. test.
