I have a 95 Civic EX, and the master cylinder is leaking, so I went out and bought a new one and I'm ready to put it in but haven't really done anything like this before, I'm pretty mechanically inclined for the most part, the only think I'm really worried about is fluid leaking out everywhere when I take out the bad cylinder assembly. does anyone know anything that might be able to help me out, personal experience, or just a web page or something that might help, anything will be appreciated

i just read up on that remova and install seems pretty straight forward i just changed out my brake master cylinder no prob... i need to do my clutch one now get a helms manual from acura they are gold when trying to be your own mechanic... by the way how much and where did you buy your cylinder?

 

I got mine from Advance Auto Parts for like 90 dollars, but I just saw one on like the NOPI website or the Summit site for like 30 or 40 dollars can't remember..

 

ehhh if don't have fat arms, you can definitely do this.

how are so sure it's leaking? did the mechanic tell you that? does the fluild in reservoir go when you fill it up?

 

im pretty sure mine is leaking also. Every few days it seems like i have to put more dot 3 fluid in there

 

The main tool you need is a 10mm flare nut wrench.

Siphon the brake fluid out of the resevoir.
Brake loose the 10mm nut with the flare nut wrench.
Unclamp the hose from the Clutch Master Cylinder (the hose that is fed from the Clutch Fluid resevoir).
Go inside your car, remove cotter pin from Clutch pedal.
Slide the "rod" out of your Clutch pedal.
Unbolt the 2 nuts (10mm) from each side of the Clutch Master Cylinder (inside your car).
Pull out Clutch Master Cylinder.
Install is reverse.
After installation, have a friend break open Slave Cylinder bleeder screw.
Push down on Clutch pedal, tighten screw, release Clutch pedal.
Do this until enough pressure builds up.

Pretty straight forward. Main thing is don't strip the nut, use a 10mm flare nut wrench. If you feel it slipping, get some locking pliers and lock it TIGHT. Then crack it loose.

its not a very hard job the most import tool is the flare nut wrech cause they are thicker and after 10 years the lines can get kinda stuck on there and a normal wrech may just strip it out and thats not good at all

 

How long should it take to bleed the system, I changed my master and release cylinder (slave) on saturday and I still have no pressure on the clutch, the damn thing is still chill'n on the floor. I bleed the system until I didn't see bubbles, but that only took a few cycles of the pump, hold, loosen, tighten. Should I bleed some more? After checking with the Haynes manual, it says I could also have a bad release bearing or fork, but I want to make sure that's the problem before I invest another few hundred on over priced honda parts ($230 for the slave and master from the honda dealership). Shouldn't there be some pressure against the clutch pedal? I hurd someone mention a bench bleed, what the hell is that?
