Can a cf hood be repaired
I'm planing on purchasing a used cf hood which is apparently damaged. the guy says the actual fiber part is not broken but it needs a new clear coat. My question is has anyone ever repaired a chip or crack on a cf hood, and if so how? This guy is selling the hood for $100 cnd so the price seems right.
from what i've heard for scratch, you can sand as much as you can just before the fibre then put clear coat over it. I want to keep the cf look rather then paint over it.

you can repair it but its hard to find a shop that will strip the clear coat and re clear coat. most shops just wanna throw new clear coat over it, and u will be able to see the damage

mmm this is true to a certain extend.. depending on how deep is the scratch.. and how much sanding you are going to do..
if its deep.. just clear coat wont cut it.. u need to apply some resin on top to replaced on what you took of while sanding..cuz if you remove resin you will weaken the hood... then after that u apply the cleat coat
you need to apply the same kind of resin that was use originally on the hood(polyester, vinyl or epoxy) or choose a resin that will infuse into the resin that was used ..
hope this helps

bump for more info cuz mine has a crack in the clear coat that has progressively gotten bigger and is all cloudy and crap. It is true about how hard it is to find a shop that will sand it all the way down for you...
