Default Connecting rod caps stuck!

Basically I cant get them off. I have ARP bolts in there, and have no problem taking off all the nuts. But when trying to pull the cap off, it only comes about halfway off the studs and then gets stuck. I tried to pry at it with a crow bar and other **** but no dice. Im trying to avoid damaging the crank any further than it already is. Any suggestions?

We had the same problem with a set of rods too. We had to wrap and clamp them in a bench clamp, thread the nuts on partially, and then hit the studs with a dead-blow hammer. The trick is to get each side to wiggle out evenly so that one side doesn't bind as the cap comes off.

You might also try putting a slight chamfer on the inner radius of the rod cap holes on the side that mates to the upper half of the rod.

is the crank trashed because of how you took the caps off or was it already bad.....
i had this same problem with a B18c1 block about 2 weeks ago....i "beat" the caps off by "hammering" on the pistons...this pushed them out the top and forced the caps off.....so what im asking is " is my crank trash too"....it still has a near mirror finish...but what the hell caused the caps to do that....and i would assume that this means the rods are trash to no?

the crank was already damaged from when my rod ripped through the block. Im told that if the journal is scratched, enough to feel it with your fingernail, its probably trashed. That tiny scratch will create a hot spot, and you will end up spinning the bearing anyway and risk further damage to the motor.

even if the crank has scratches on the journals you can polish them out. i had it done already.
