Default crank damage

I finally got to inspect my crank somewhat this evening. As far as I can tell, the only damage I see is on the fat part of the crank, not the journals. I dont know the technical name for that part. Its the thick darker area on the crank. Its just a little ding and Im guessing it can be fixed. Obviously Im gonna have to get it balanced but what do you think? Ill try to get a pic tomorrow.

Do you mean the counterweight area? (Non-polished cast look)

If it is gouged too much it would be best to grind it down somewhat. Then definently have it balanced...personally I would toss it.
