Default Post up: D15b7 TURBO experiences and setup.

Post up if you have a d15b7 turbo setup or had one. Looking for experiences. Busted rods fast? Max boost you made it to? Your full setup. Mileage on your motor.

Motors like this and the HX are always overlooked. So I want to find out what's up with them.

Made 141 hp and 140 tq on my d15b7 @ 5.5 psi with an HF manifold, T3 42 trim, 2.5" DP and 450s/AFC hack. Had 124k on the odo, and boosted it for lil over a year (11,000 miles) then swapped in a jdm d15b vtec engine.

That's not a bad jump at all in HP.

I'm trying to decide whether or not to slap this kit on a d15b7 or go buy a 1.6.

yes, the d15b vtec now has the turbo on it.. And yes i noticed a large inprovement, but i upgraded at lot of things at once so its hard to tell what did what.. Added an 8lb ACT prolite flywheel, SPEC stage 3 clutch, JDM Si transmission, and Uberdata fuel management..

Any reason for this one? THe JDM SI TRANSMISSION. Aside from the LSD, which i'm not sure if the JDM Si Has... why'd you do that? I was thinking more along the lines of a DX transmission with an ACT Stage 2. That was going to be my setup anyway. I wasn't planning on getting more than 250 whp on my old HX wish list.

The reason I said DX would be because of it's gear ratio. You'll hit gears faster in an EX/SI -- z6/b-vtec transmission but wth the DX, i'm speculating that you'd be able to take more advantage of your boost.

Hmm. What ECU are you using also? I saw you used the AFC hack.. did you change ECU's when you went to the D15bVtec or did you keep the same one?

it will take you forever and a day to hit boost, say you hit boost at 3k well an EX or SI tranny will get you to 3k a hell of a lot faster than a DX. keep that in mind

The tranny came with my engine. I'd take the Si's gear ratios over the DX's anyday. When i was running with d15b7 i was using a p06, but now that i am swapped im running a P28 w/ uberdata.

Yup. Staying in boost does you no good. Shorter gear ratios will always mean faster accelleration until you have too much power to touch the gas in first.

sohcMONSTER --

You know what? I argued that same point at the tables in the mall. But ended up getting convinced that a DX transmission would've been better for boost because you'd be boosting longer. I agree with you completely and it's good to know someone else thinks the same as me.

Slammd Sol --

Any reason why Uberdata instead of Hondata? Just inquiring. I wanted Hondata for my y5 setup so that I could take Vtec crossover down to the HX stock crossover.

I only wish I wouldn't have gotten dicked so bad. I'd be boosting HX right now.

Thank you for actually posting a vid that is .mpg. Guys like me that use Linux, can't view .wmp movies. I bet it feels nice to be sucked back into your seat with some boost.

i'll be turbo-ing the y5 also and i hear it comes out with nice numbers. one of the few honda motors that has more torque than HP. but i've been asking alot of people who turbo'd HX's and all of them seemed to be using the AFC-hack i really wanted to run uberdata, but i'm not sure how i am going to tackle the vtec engagement points because i hear the first valve opens at 2800 and especially the 5th o2 sensor (wideband?) but i wanted a clean turbo set up with no cels and to its fullest potential. but when i get it running i'll keep you guys updated

mines lasted 1 week, felt pretty good at 8psi, but one day it overboosted to 14psi and the rods just flew off the block and hit my turbo, i was pissed as hell though cause it made a small scratch on my turbo . you should turbo yours just make sure you have a back up 1.6vtec in case, also the 1.6 is def faster and the higher redline helps too, since im still using the dx tranny.

I boosted a d15b7 with less than satisfactory results.. See in my sig.. Thing is that the motor had a problem with it before it was boosted so I think the boost just found the problem..
