ok i put a new head gasket on my car and aligned the timing up and the ignition is right but when i try to start it it just crankes and the car just keeps backfiring and will never really start. does anyone have any pointers?

 

How sure are you that the cam timing is correct? Because this sounds exactly like the timing belt is seriously off.

 

Check the firing order.. It sounds like either the cam timing or firing order..

 

Hopefully no bent valves if the timing was off.

 

Sounds like you have the firing order messed up.
