Default 98 Hatch with check engine light

hey my brothers check engine light came on and the temp. needle goes up when he is just idleing like at a stop light, but it only does it 2 or 3 times a day. No sensors are broken physically, anyone have this problem, or know what it is?

find out what code its throwing...you do this by using apaper clip and jumping 2 wires together...down by your ecu is a 2 pin plug (blue) and its covered by a green rubber cover....make the paper clip into a "U" shape and plug it into the blue plug...do this while the car is running....and count how many times you check engine light flashes...if it flashes long then followed by short flasshes thats a 2 digit code for example: 1 long flash, followed by 7 short flashes= code 17....if its a single digit it will flash short. example" 5 short flashes= code 5...go try this out and let me know

do you check it the same way that you check an EG code? because the car is an EK and i heard that you had to use the "box" to check codes on obd2
