Default What the heck is my car doing!

Ok my car has been missing a little at high rpm's. I think it is because of the spark plugs I have, but who knows. Anyway I decided to rev my engine up slowly in nuetral to make sure everything was sounding nice and smooth. I revved her up to about 8k and held it there for a second. Suddenly the engine kind of cut and the rpms fell to about 7,500 before returning back to 8k. A few seconds later it did it again. I waited a minute before trying again and this time nothing happened as I held the revs at 8k for about 5-6seconds. The engine feels smooth as silk until it cuts out or misfires or whatever it's doing. It's almost like the fuel is getting cut for a brief second. What could the problem be? I'm going to the dealer soon but I want to have some idea. Is it the plugs, fuel system, ecu, distributor? Thanks in advance.

it sounds like revlimiter but it shouldnt kick in at 8k unless it does that in neutral..

My guess is a bad fuel pump.

I'm guessing oil pressure. Check your fuel pump when you start up your car.

would incorrectly gapping the spark plugs have anything to do with this?

somehow, I always thought that revving the engine to the rev limiter in neutral (without load) is bad..
oh well.. anyone can confirm this?

Yea it is bad. I forgot wether because you don't have a load on the engine or the transmission. Its one of those.

Very very very bad... don't do that again... ever... with no load the motor is loose and sloppy at sustained rpms... any rpms.. the problem is magnified by higher rpms as the stresses on the motor increase expotentially (sp)

If you are having a need to do that drive the car or use a dyno... I've seen guy's with crank triggered ignitions ( not me of course ) get timing fluctuations from crank flex while holding high rpm in neutral, causing mis fire..

The result obviously will be a rod out the side of the block... or some such thing..
