Considering buying a GSR
Sup yo.
new guy here, im considering selling my old nissan 200sx for a 3rd gen gsr. i just have a couple questions.
1) how much HP can i gain with roughly $2000? should i go turbo or super with this cash? i dont plan to drag race, i just want some quickness without sacrificing reliability.
2) is there a stock tweeter location? if there is, how big is the tweeter?
3) b18c1. are they reliable? have they been known to last like 200,000 miles?
thanks

I'm glad you're thinking about joining the Integra family. You'll find that a GSR is a very worthy purchase if you focus on building the car properly.

With a budget of only $2000 I wouldn't think about forced induction at this point. Maybe with a car that has a good list of mods, however if the car is a virgin, then there are other things to address. The first thing I'd look into is a healthy set of tires. Then I'd address the suspension. Also, before turning a wrench on the engine, make sure that the drivetrain is suited to your power goals. 250 hp is worthless is your clutch is slipping.

Yes, it's on the door panel between the door handle and the exterior mirror.

Unabused B series engines have been known to hold out for quite some time. I'll definately say that some B18C1's will see 200k and much more with no issues at all, however every engine is different and has been put through many different forms of abuse so I can't say that all of them will make it.

you can buy a used turbo kit for like $1.5K or so, but there's no telling what might go wrong, but you'll have $500 extra just for that purpose. I say BOOST IT
b18c1 can get 200K on it even if it's had the **** beaten out of it

The one problem you run into with inexpensive used turbo setups is that the engine management is often very lacking. True, $1500 can get you the major components, but the engine management is often limited to an FMU and a Missing Link. Hell, most of the "used" kits have never actually been used together on a running car, they were pieced together and upon realizing that the project would indeed be more expensive, the owner decides to sell his "turbo kit." And what's more is that most of these kits won't effectively support more than 5 or 6 lbs of boost before you would start running into component problems anyway. I'd love to see how far that left-over $500 will get you when have a boost spike that leans out the engine and leaves you with little bits and pieces of B18C1 all over the place.
If you're going to boost it, boost it the right way. I'd invest in larger injectors, a larger fuel pump, and Hondata (if not an EMS). Then I'd put some research into proper turbo selection and then put together a kit that will not only create amazing results, but will keep the engine running strong for years to come.

It depends upon what you're referencing as fast. Are you interested in top speed? How about the cars ability to corner? Or acceleration perhaps?
For all definitions of fast, you'll need good tires. Also, good suspension won't do anything but help.

That's ironic. One of my friends SC'ed and then turbo'ed his GSR. after it got stolen he got a 240sx. He said the 240 was faster and cheaper to mod. go figure
In regards to the question about the tweeter, I know it is larger then most after market tweeters or so crutchfield said, so most any size should work. correct me if I'm wrong

I don't know about easier to mod, but anyway, the 240SX is a pretty cool car... one of my favorites, at least. Yeh, but, I'm still saving up for an integra. Haha, why else would I be reading the HONDA forums?

I disagree there. My brother has a '95 240SX 5sp and he's put more money into it than I have for my GS-R. My car is definitely faster than his.

You can easily get basically free engine management with Uberdata. All you have to pay for is the tuning, its arguably the same exact thing as hondata, with a good tuner its a perfect engine management system.
I pieced together a kit and got my tuned for right about exactly 3,000 dollars. Its very reliable, tuned and is very quick. Easily a mid/low 13 second car. Daily driver aswell.
