Default Code 20 - ELD - A couple questions...

So, I just dropped a '92 JDM Xsi B16a OBD1 motor in my '92 gsr, and along with code 5 and 8, which have yet to be resolved, I am also throwing a code 20, which is the Electronic Load Detector (ELD). From reading the archived posts, it seems this is a sensor only found in U.S. 88-91 CRX/civcs. I am thinking this is also a sensor on the JDM Xsi, I am using an OBD1 PR3 ECU, which probably is looking for the ELD but is not finding one, because my car is not equiped with it. Does anyone know how to perminantly fix this code, by either tricking the ECU or adding the ELD sensor? I am trying to get the car all good for a buyer, and I dont want a CEL floating around. I may end up trying to trade someone my PR3 OBD1 for a P30 or P61. I sold my gsr P61 a long time ago, wish I still hadn't now.

Thanks all.

Second gen tegs also have this sensor. It is part of the underhood fuse box. It detects the amount of power coming from the alternator and the voltage regulator's ability to compensate power when different accesories are turned on and off. I ran into this problem a couple of weeks ago when I did the same thing you are doing. I I plugged in the P61 and the code went away, which told me that the P30 ecu I was using was bad. I am currently waiting on another P30.

Damn, I certainly hope its not the ECU. I have another alternator so if it isn't the fuse, I'll replace the alternator to see if that solves the problem.

Is a P61 the only other OBD1 DOHC VTEC ecu that looks for the ELD sensor?

Also, I just checked the underhood fusebox and did not see anything labeled ELD or anything like that...what fuse would it be?

Thanks.

ummm im pretty sure the second gen tegs dont have ELD... you can get a chipped p28 for a decent price now a days and you shouldnt run into that problem that your having... i have a 92 teg that im swapping in a b18c eventually and i had a chipped p28 that i plugged in to make sure it worked and the only code that came up was for the vtec solenoid... i ended up trading the p28 for a p72 and i get the code for the ELD and vtec so i would assume its the ecu he is using

ditto!

I am having similar problems with my civic.
I do think 2nd gen tegs have the ELD (2nd gens are the ones up to 96??)
my manual goes for both civic and integras because those model years were similar. The ELD is under the underhood fuse box ....it doesn't look to be a fuse its more of a connector.

I am sure you've solved the problem since december...
but I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this matter.
The civic keeps blowing the alternator fuse (fuse 15) 7.5A ...we replaced the primary o2, checked several strands of wires.....one of which was burned and melted in two places....but that still didn't fix the problem.

thanks!

2nd Gen Tegs are 90-93.

For OBD0, I know from experience that plugging in PM6 ECU where my PR4 should be throws a CEL 20...but it doesnt affect how the cars runs at all.

I believe the PM6 is checking for an ELD but there isnt one on the 90-91 tegs.

What you can do is find an ELD off of a car that has the same ECU you have and wire it up in your car, or find an OBD1 ECU that doesnt look for ELD.

I think those are your only two choices.
