There is no such thing as a Vtec tranny. You are talking about a transmission off of a D16y7 (with crappy long *** gears) if you are asking about a 1998 Civic Dx. Get the transmission from a 92-95 SI, 92-95 EX or a 96-00 EX and put it onto your motor if you are wanting a good short transmission.

Also, any 92-00 tranny from a D series motor will bolt onto your D series motor.

The tranny will bolt right up and should work great. You might want to check the speedo-sensor though, the plug might be different, but i doubt it. good luck

No need to even transfer it, the clutch is bolted to the flywheel, which stays on the engine!

i think all D series trannies match up with d series engines, and all B series trannies match up with b series engines. but the two cannot be mixed. i don't even think the 1998 dx had vtec. only in the ex/si and a economical form in the HX

This would be correct.
