94 integra LS wont start just makes clicking noise
Hey whats up everyone. My girlfriends car has been having problems turning over. when you turn the key it just makes a loud "click" under the hood. it usualy only happens in the morning or after the car has been siting a long time. i was thinking it might be the fuel pump or the starter. please let me know if you have any ideas of what it might be. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!

When you have problems starting, its usually:
1) bad starter
2) bad battery
3) bad alternator
Or any combination of the above. Places like Autozone can test those systems for free on the car, and then they will sell you the parts you need.

if it's clicking then it's probably not the battery or starter, but it could be.
i'd test all 3 though (batt, starter, alt) and then go from there
good luck

On the cars I have owned, the sound you described is usually a bad battery.
The battery may not be taking a charge from the alternator due to an old or damaged battery. Test the battery voltage with a voltmeter to determine if it is bad. A good battery measures around 12.7-13 Volts DC. Also if the battery is not sealed, open the vent caps and see if the water is at the correct level. If it isn't add water. If the voltage remains low after charging it with a battery charger then consider replacing it.

I would say bad battery or you have a current draw somewhere(alarm/stereo). Break out the voltmeter check it out and also check how it's charging. An alternator over charging will kill a battery quick.

and try it in there. If that is what it is I will let you know. thanks again!

Ok, just checked the battery and it wasnt that. I also pulled out her spark plugs and they could very easily be the stock plugs ROFL they are SO GROSS! First thing tomorrow im going to go replace those. but that still isnt all of the problem because I put my new ones in as well and it is still doing it. when I pulled the plugs you could not smell any fuel. I think I will replace the filter as well. I think the alt. is fine as well because there has never been any problems as far as current or laging starts. If you have any more ideas please let me know.

So the only thing it can be in the starter.

ok... if u turn the key in the ignition and it makes a click noise just once, each time you turn the key... then its most likely you're starter. How many miles do you have on it? I had to replace mine at around 120k.
And the incidence of you having problems starting will only grow and grow with time. Don't tell me... if u keep turning the key to start it over and over, it eventually starts rite? that'll be the starter.

Yep, thats exactly how it is and it has a little over 130k. Yesterday I orderd a new starter for it and I should have everything installed today when it gets here. Thanks for the help. I will post later and let you know how it went.
