MF-1 started construction today, 0.02% complete!
Taking full advantage of father's day, and the fact that I am on an unplanned paid 2 week vacation (got walked out when I gave my two weeks notice...) I watched the USGP and headed out to the garage to break ground on the race car. Spent a couple of hours, first blood and all.
I have a small goal in mind: get the bling installed inside the car, just to get my feet wet and get acquainted with the car, so to speak.
So, I installed the tach, the shift light, the pedal covers, and the shift **** (like I said, bling) - I also started studying what it's gonna take to install the driver seat.
Here are some pictures of the day's progress.
Of all the pedals to give me ****, the accelerator was a real pain to drill. It now has 3 extra holes. woohoo, weight savings....

Pretty shift ****, the best bling for the buck.

Tach and shift light, mounted but not wired (eh, I ain't got nuthin' to wire it to, yet)

Overall view of the office.

Now, here's hope for the future of racedom:

that's all for today, I'm hoping to be able to make a little bit more progress this week. Crossing fingers.

Good for you. I too spent Father's Day watching the USGP, cleaning the garage and...working on the racecar again for the first time in more months than I can count!
The wife and kid packed up the SUV and the dog and headed off to Hilton Head for 10 days with the in-laws and it should be just me and the racecar (and the job, and the lawn, ...). I hit the grocery store for a 12 pack of Coronas, some limes and assorted bachelor food and look forward to a week of making headway on the racecar.

yeah, the kids were handing me screws, drill bits, etc. I'll turn these girls into Tomboys yet.
The Froggy sticker was a gift from Uncle Catch - I guess he listens to country, but shhh! he's still in the closet!
Since I bought the shell already stripped and caged, I don't count that as part of my work to complete. So, I'm still only 0.02% complete. Hopefully I can get some more time into the car this week. Ideally, I'd like to have all the interior done this week (seats, belts, gauges, fire extinguisher, mirror, etc.) I'd call that 10%.

The damned thing still has my tech sticker from Roebling on it. That was April 2003.
Lazy assed froggie.
Scott, who says only a true, diehard ricer starts a project by installing the shift **** first.

actually, the tach went on first, the **** second. I just didn't wanna lose the little set screws. That, and I like bling-bling. I'm thinkin' that 20" spinn-ars will be mighty fine on that car.
waddayathink?
waddayathink?
I think the first thing you need to do is get that black vinyl and start applying the froggie spots.
Scott, who thinks the poison dart frog motif is going to look great and be quite appropriate.
