Default Air compressor keeps blowing my damn house fuse....

I guess this is a good place to ask...

I have a 120v 15amp, 3.5 HP 30 gal air compressor. I dont use any extension cords.

If I bleed all the air out and recharge the tank from complete emptyness, it will charge up just fine up to around 150 psi. If I leave the 'auto' setting on, once the pump kicks back on the damn house fuse blows.

ALL my fuses in my house are at LEAST 15amp, I dont remmeber right now which fuse blows (amperage-wise).

any advice?

plug it into a differen't outlet (on a different circuit). Beyond that I'd probably call an electrician....

yep........call someone who knows their electrical.

there is something called a slow-burn circut breaker that you could probably use....but you better ask an electrician first.

my 5hp 26gallon 15amp compressor never trips the breaker in my garage.......

hmm... well I was told not to use an extension cord due to the potential voltage drop. I dont know where else I can pull my car around to work on it

maybe ill head to some DIY home improvement forum and ask there.. or home depot or somethin

What size fuse did you have and what did you replace it with? What other things are on that fuse? I would be a lil worried about additional circuits that might be affected by the drop in resistance

don't know exactly what size, but the electrician said I should be fine with it and never had problems since. I wouldn't recommend doin it yourself unless you REALLY know what you are doin!

I'd would just plug it into a different outlet. The circuit your connected to is drawing too much amperage and thus your fuse blows..

plug it into the dryer or washer outlet because it needs at least a 20 amp breaker on it for most compressor, I had the same problem with mine on a 15 amp compressor, I just switched plug outlet and problem was gone. But it you dont have the luxury of having a 20 amp call a electrican. I know someone that go toasted by a light switch repair, and was never the same agian. ( brain damage and is addicted to the pain killers) Be safe

Well my dryer/washers are upstairs and inside from my garage.. that would be one long extension cord.

I got one of those mini compressors, not too big... if i dont plug anything else into the outlet, the compressor will do just fine. Its already provided enough power to get those axle bolts off... we'll see how it fares with the crank pulley bolt

I would install a circuit breaker just alone for that wall receptacle if it is connected to other receptacles make sure you're not using halogen lighting those suckers take alot of juice. use a 20A breaker as stated above, electric motors take alot of current to get them started. if your breaker box doesn't have an extra slot for a breaker upgrade to a newer with more.
