loud engine?
Hey, I purchased my accord used about a month ago as my first car.(Its a 97 4-door, 2.2L I4) Anyway, when I first began to drive it I coudnt help but notice that the engine seemed a bit loud, especially for a family car like an accord. I ignored the problem for about a month, but recently some friends of mine have also noticed the noise, and Ive also began to notice it(and become annoyed by it) more. I think its time to get it fixed, but I have no idea what it could be. Im definetly going to take it to the local honda place, but im just curious as to what could be causing this.
Any ideas?
If it helps, the excess sound is most noticable at 2500-3500 rpm, ESPECIALLY when im trying to accelerate up a hill.

you really need to tell us what kinda sound......does it sound like ur mufflers been chopped off?....is it a ticking noise??.......does it sound like a metal rattle??.....does it sound like 2 pieces of metal clicking against each other??......theres about a million defferent sounds......
There is no clicking or tapping. The engine is simply louder than most equivelent engines. The sound is most similar to the sound of a fart-can equipped car at low rpm.
so basically, while most accords sound like, vrrrrroooom
mine is like VROOOOMMM
Please let me know if you need any more specific details

ok.....so its an exhaust tone????......
either you have a hole somwhere in your exhaust, or somehow, your intake resonator took a dump (dont know how that would work though)
but most likely, your exhaust is bad......stand behind the car, and if its louder, then its def exhaust......
to check for hole location: if exhaust gasses are sputtering out, then its a hole in the piping, or somewhere else up near the front of the car. to check for this, put your hand and inch or two away from the tailpipe. if it makes a puttering (repeating sound like: ...ph..ph..ph..ph..ph) then u have bad piping, otherwise, your muffler has rusted out, and the metal that divides the chambers has been eaten away
