I'm confused and has searched the forum.
Everyone has done an engine swap. So everyone is changing their ECU. But since I live in Europe, I have a standard B16A in my Honda CRX. It isn't an engine swap but a standard model from the dealer.
I want to run Uberdata so I will need to convert to OBD1.
Does it matter which OBD1 I use? Some say I should use a P28, while others tell me to use a P30. But since I'm chipping the ECU for Uberdata it really doesn't matter which one I use, right? Or am I wrong?

you have a PW0 ecu on your car iff you want to use a P28 you will need to trade your distributor for a OBDI one.

Yes I know, but the question is which OBD1 do I need? Does it matter if it's a P28 or a P30?

Thanx DaX, using a VTEC ECU for a non-VTEC setup seems obvious to me. But how's the other way around? A non-VTEC ECU for a VTEC setup? Is this possible, since I'll be using Uberdata anyway? Or does it have to be a VTEC ECU?

No you cannot. The non-vtec ecu's do not have the vtec driver things on the board. I am unsure as to whether or not you could put the vtec driver things in and make it vtec, but it's probably just easier to buy a vtec ecu.

Yeah, that is what I thought. But I have an European Honda CRX 1.6VT. It's a CRX with a B16A1 from the factory. It comes with a OBD0 VTEC ECU. (It's a Honda CRX SiR in the US?). My car runs fine, it's no swap. It's a standard VTEC CRX.
But I need to convert to OBD1 for Uberdata. On ebay they sell a lot of OBD1 ECU's with different chips like P28 or P30.
My question is which one do I need for running Uberdata? Does the chip on the ECU matter?

If your going uber then it really doesn't matter. The main difference between the p28 and p30 is the p30 has a knock sensor board and the p28 doesn't. I know the German B series don't use a knock sensor so it'd be a waste to get the p30.

Ok, thanks a lot B18C4-T! Should I try to get a P28 or can I get any OBD1 I want? Like an OBD1 ECU with a PR3? Or does the rest of the OBD1 doesn't support VTEC (different boards)?
Check this out: http://hondata.com/ecus.html
There are a list of ECU's, their OBD's, and what they support. Hope it helps.

Dax, thanks for the link but I've already seen that. It doens't contain the info I need. I have a standard CRX with a B16A with a standard OBD0 PW0 ECU. The only thing I know is that I have to convert to OBD1 for Uberdata.
But I still don't know if it matters which OBD1 with wich chip I get.
So, does it matter if it contains a P28, P30, P72, etc? Which do I need for Uberdata?

Any of the ecu's you listed will work. The p28 will be the easiest and cheapest to find. The p30 and p72 both use knock sensors snd the p72 also controls the secondaries on the gsr mani. I'd suggest the p28, it has everything you need and is the cheapest. Just remember, if you run the p28 you'll also need a b16 program to make sure you don't damage anything. Larry
