Idle Problem
Hello Honda-Techies. I've been having problems with my 98 Accord Sedan. The biggest problem is that I feel a loss of power and hesitation. It just doesn't accelerate as it used to. Also, I notice that often times when I started the engine, the idle goes up and then drops to about 200 and then back up to 800 or 1k. I could feel the drop--it is like the engine is going to die but it does not. Perhaps I need a tune-up? I've added fuel-injector cleaner to see if that may solve the problem. Any ideas what is wrong ? Thanks.
Could be a clogged PCV valve, it goes into the valve cover and works with vacum, if its clogged up valve will not open to remove pressure from engine. And cause idle problems , check it out pull out PCV from valve cover and shack it if there is no clicking noise it's clogged.PCV should be changed every 30,000 miles . Also Dirty Throttle Body maybe, Go To Honda Dealer and buy HONDA Throttle Plate and Induction cleaner spray can, and spray clean Throttle Body.
I have the same problem in my 99LX. After much research I came to the conclusion that it is the Idle Air Control Valve. Honda/Acura is notorious for this engine condition. The factory originals are pretty crappy.
A lesser cause to the problem may be the Throttle Position Sensor or the MAP Sensor.
