Default Tachometer Jumps

'93 Accord. Sometimes the tach wildly jumps around but the RPMs are steady. When it does this sometimes the engine can stall. Seems electrical. When this is not happening the car runs perfect. Any ideas?

The actual engine doesn't jump in rpm's correct? If it does I would recommend cleaning the IACV .

If it doesn't I would check your grounds/fuses.

I just had it idling perfectly. Then I hear a clicking that sounds like a relay or a vaccuum valve then the tach jumps and the car dies. Again, when the tach jumps around there is no change in RPM. Is the tach electronic?

i would check all of your vacuum hoses make sure they are all hooked up, and none are just hanging loosely.

I replaced the cap and rotor and it seems fixed. The tach must run off the distributer because it does not jump around anymore.

I had the same problem on my '90 civic si. I asked the same question on HTech, and I was told it was the ignition coil which sits in the distributor. ( I think that's the right name! ) I had it changed, and it never happened again. I don't know if the hardware is the same on an Accord, but I don't see why not, 4cyl engine, just a larger displacement. Check that and see if it helps.
