Default Integra 1999 Transmission problem - help needed

hi all,
I am seeing a clicking sound while driving my 1999 Acura Integra LS. Took it to Sears and Acrua Dealer, they are saying I need to replace transmission. Its only 5 year old car, so I am not sure whether I need to replace transmission which costs 3800$. I checked with AAMCO and found out they can rebuild transmission for much cheaper for 1600$ or so.

My question is, did anyone experienced the transmission change in 5-6 years? Also, how to diagnose this and fix the problem. Any help or tips will be greatly appreciated as I have to shelve out big money if I choose the fixing path.

thanks.

Whoa, for that you could get a JDM B18 engine complete. I saw a new spoon spec ITR tranny for sale for $1800 at some site. $3,800 is way to much. I am sorry I don't know whats wrong with it.

The Acrua Dealer Technician didn't open the engine to check. All he said was, it is a differential problem and something is coming apart. Needs to replace Transmission. He is charging 100$ for every hour and he said, if I have to open and check it will be 7 hours and 700$. So I couldn't go ahead. I live in Seattle Area, Washington. If anyone knows how to diagnose this, I can get it done by some means.

I read some postings and found it can be a fluid problem. But not sure of it. Any ideas? I badly need help on this from someone who knows integra as I am almost novice.

how does it shift. i am assuming you are speaking of an auto tranny. if all you're hearing is noise and it still shifts fine, then just turn up your stereo. if it is shot, then i'm sure you can find a good used ls auto tranny for way cheaper than $1600.

It shifts smoothly. It is an automatic transmission, not manual. I only hear the noise when I put on accelerator or break. I am afraid to drive this as the dealer guy scared me saying it will fall apart if you drive on it for long without fixing and he has no idea how long it can go further. I have done all car repairs so far and it has 54000 miles only in 5 years and I did every 3 months oil change too so far.

what is auto tranny ?

are you sure it's your tranny? you may wanna check your cv joints/axles. if it's the tranny just buy a used one off of someone here on h-t. no need to shell out thousands of dollars. oh...auto tranny=automatic transmission.

Even the guy who towed my car to the dealer said, it may be CV/Axle problem. But this dealer guy is not ready to check that as he is saying opening the car and checking for it costs 7-8 hours of work. I am now believeing in CV/Axle problem as more than one person saying it by now.

There was no threading left on tires and I replaced all the 4 tires first thinking that is the problem, can the CV/Axle problem be due to this?. I may have to get this checked up first.

if i were you, i'd have the cv/axels looked at. it is a far cheaper repair than the tranny. have you ever replaced the cv/axels? if not, that could definately be your problem.
