Default doing a sohc vtec swap..couple questions

ive done alot of searching

and im wondering whats the jdm equivalant of a d16z6 sohc vtec? reason im asking is because most engine places around here sell jdm engines and it mite be hard to find a usdm d16z6

also my hatchback is a 90std so its a dpfi

im thinking of just converting the car to obd1 instead of running it obd0 and using a pm6 to run it/activation switch dont really want to do that, i want to use the motor at its full potential using the right stuff, whats a good brand harness to buy i notice some members make them what members do u recommend?

how much do p28s usually run for?

im going thru a shop to do this for me, labor is gonna be 500$ as far as i see they do gr8 work, they built my friends ls/vtec and its running really healthy and looks gr8 and professinaly built

how much should a sohc vtec engine usually run? complete minus tranny cause of course my hatch is cable

blown90hatchs conversion harness is what i reccomend. you can pm him on here or go to his site for them

http://www.jkobdconversionharness.com/

I got my p28 for $80 locally, you can usually find them online for 100-150 shipped

I also found my d16z6 locally for $300, but i've seen em go for anywhere frmo 300-700. Just look around try going to shops that do swaps and see if anyone just recently went with a b-series and left there old d-series engien there.

Im doing the same swap...i was gonna do ob1 from ob0 but its a big pain in the butt...get the p28 ecu...and a jumper harness...all the wires are spliced into the harness already...makes it alot easier...just gotta find someone to do the injectors...my buddy works at a speed shop and does alot of wiring so he did it for me...but keep the harness ob0 makes things alot easier down the road.

the equivalant to a 1.6L VTEC is a JDM D. 15B SOHC VTEC 130HP Great motor. http://asia.vtec.net/article/d15b/

The JDM D15B (92-95 1.5L SOHC VTEC; 128 hp, it's 130 ps not hp) is a wonderful motor. I've had mine since this past Feb. and love it.

You won't get the VTEC-E as long as you get a 92-95 D15B VTEC (Civic VTi)... the 96+ are the VTEC-E.

The D15B is the bottom-end of a USDM Civic VX (with exception of pistons and maybe a few other things) and the top-end of the Si/EX (Z6). Use the VX Timing Belt! The Z6 one was either too tight or loose for correct tensioning (has different number of teeth)

Enjoy my man!
John

...the d15b is not the equivalent to the z6 the jdm zc sohc vtec is equivalent to the z6 just a tad more power....i know some1 that got a great deal on ebay for the zc sohc vtec....but z6 can be found locally easy....i picked mine up with a crx si tranny for zip, zero, nodda, nothing..

It's supposed to be very good to boost. Best RS Ratio (Rod/Stroke) in the D-Series stock.

http://www.ardperformance.com/...al=25 -- This shows two identical looking motors (2nd and 3rd listed) the 1.6L ZC SOHC VTEC and 1.5 D15B... they have bad numbers though... the JDM D15B is also 128hp not the 125 they list... so Bserieskllr you are correct... but you must say that the JDM D15B is very comparable to the Z6, in power and price (Price at Hmotorsonline.com that is)

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by "eg6ajk" &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">indeed I used to have both, but there actually were four variants of the sohc vtec:

ETi 1.5l VTEC-E 94ps/92hp (our VX motor)
VTi 1.5l VTEC 130ps/128hp (1.5l VX block with d16z6 head)-same hp but less torque, but revved nicely
Domani ZC (sohc vtec) was 1.6l 130ps/128hp, identical to our D16z6
Civic Coupe D16A (sohc vtec) a 1.6l 130ps/128hp, indentical to our d16z6, actually this one was assembled in Ohio/Ontario Honda Plants

yes the VTi came with optional LSD tranny, I had one, its a Torsen type, gearing was the same as a d16z6 on all but the ETi(VTEC-E)

I just did a D16Z6 swap into my 91 Civic STD. I converted to OBD1, and I'm running a stock P28. There have been some weird problems, but I'm hoping to fire it up tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes.

The JDM D15B pulls very nicely... it lacks a little torque compared to the Z6, but revs up so fast! I'm running approx. 15.3 @ 88-89 mph (This was calculated via my mph at the end of a 1/4, which was measured out; will eventually go to a track to get official time) That's with what I have listed in my signature. If you can get one cheap, it's a good motor.

I can't help you on the axles thing.

I'm amazed no one has mentioned that you need to convert from DPFI to MPFI then from OBD0 to OBD1... You can do the converting at the same time (likely what you'll do) because the wiring can get confusing for some people (most) I'm not familar with DPFI to MPFI conversions but OBD0 to OBD1 is my thing

I have to convert my Si to MPFI when I swap? I already have my OBD0-1 conversion harness.
