ok, so today i put on my new valve cover and changed my cam seal. this was the first time since i bought the car (last fall) that i had ever looked under the spark plug cover and down at the spark plugs. so to my suprise i found that the number 3 spark plug was flooded under like 3 inches of coolant that was just chilling out in there. and im wondering what could have caused this and what do i have to do to fix it. i didnt even know there was coolant even around that area. so yea if any help on this would be awsome. thanks guys!
Could have blown your headgasket, or even worse cracked a water jacket in the head. If you put it back together already do a compression leakdown, if not inspect the headgasket and the head for cracks.
Do a compression and leakdown test. And if it's not your headgasket......then....

We said them already. There are only two possibilities. A busted head gasket or something more serious such as a cracked sleeve. Well, there is another.....but it's called "Someone pouring coolant into your cylinders"

hahaah who would do such a thing?
is your car over heating? is there oil in the coolant overflow reservoir? suck all the coolant out and check if it fills up again. a bad headgasket would make you burn alot of coolant / white smoke, and your car would overheat very quickly.
goodluck

well like i said, this is my first time ever looking at them. maybe the guy before me thought some coolant would keep the spark plug cold.
but anyway, there is no oil in the coolant reservoir. i do burn a little coolant, but i wouldnt say its much, just from the high to low bar on the resevoir in like 5 months. yea there is some white smoke comming out of the exhaust which i figured to be coolant anyway. but the car doesnt over heat at all or even get up to temp that fast. so thats basicly all i can tell u. well i guess im hoping its the head gasket. im guna keep an eye out on that chamber and see if it fills up again. i checked it again today and didnt have any in it after a day of driving so idk.....

white smoke is definitely coolant, actually as I'm typing this i just came in from replacing my head gasket
. Take the head off and inspect the gasket, a blown head gasket is definitely noticeable. If it looks fine, guess what, you got a crack in da chamber buddy

ok, thanks. so the only way to see if its the head gasket is to take the head of and see. well alright, i guess that is what i will have to do. thanks for the help.
and no eric, its not under warrenty its a 94 with 139K.

Even if it is the head gasket, I dont see how the coolant is actually making its way up past the spark plug. I mean, first its gotta leak in, then its compressed(to the bottom of the CC) then lite on fire and somehow its making it past 8 threads on the spark plug going against gravity
I'll bet $$ that it's definately not your headgasket. If it was your headgasket and the coolant started mixing with the oil then it would be in your engine, not that little hole for the spark plug. You would have more oil than coolant if that happened and if it were that bad than you wouldn't have a running engine right now.
I'll bet you or the previous owner washed the engine and some water got down into that spark plug hole. It happens every time I wash my engine and I just have to blow it out with compressed air.
If you got the water out of there then forget about it.

Well it obviously can't be a head gasket. How would coolant be up in the spark plug hole? If it was sitting in there for a while it would all burn off and your plug wires and plugs would get corroded. Are you sure it was coolant? Maybe just water. Did you(or anyone for that matter) clean your engine recently and maybe flood that hole? Maybe some engine degreaser or something that appears like coolant. I can't see how coolant could possibly work its way up there. If it was coming anywhere from the cylinder the plug would have probably blown out of the head by now. And even if that didn't happen the engine would have hydrolocked, or at least not fire from that cylinder at all.
The only other explanation is there is a water jacket near there and its cracked. I don't know where all the water passages are inside the head. So I can't answer if thats anything more than a theroy.

****, u last few guys could be right, i washed my engine hard core 2 days before doing the cam seal/valve cover swap. and i wasnt 100 pecent sure it was coolant in the first place, just started to asume the worst since it was kinda a clear yellow green color. but i was using simple green to clean so maybe that would be for the color, it did seem to be pretty odorless. well ****. i will check it again tommorow to see if it is still empty. lol damn, i feel kinda stupid, but im really glad you guys helped me out. thanks, probably nothing to worry about at all!!!
