Y7 to Y8 tranny upgrade????
Hello everyone I was thinking about swapping in a y8 tranny for my y7. I am running 8lbs of boost on my y7 and wanted to get something with slightly closer gearing. My y7 tranny from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd makes me drop out of boost or right to the edge where my turbo is spooling up. I think the final drive on my y7 is 3.7something does can anyone confirm this. I think the y8 final drive are around 4.2 or so. I am using my car as my daily driver/weekend autox car. Is this a viable swap or should I just look for a higher final drive? If so what should I be looking at.
I need a compromise somewhere in between. I drive the car everyday on the freeway to work for 35+ miles but I would like the higher final drive for autox days. Any and all recommendations would be much appreciated.
Thanks

If you have a hatch your FD is 3.722. The Y8 tranny will offer closer gears and a FD of 4.250, and it is very streetable as it is a stock honda tranny.
Wow that was quick I was about to edit my post to say that I searched and was only able to find b series stuff. Thanks for the info Bauley. I think I am going to end up putting in the y8 tranny and then see how it is on the autox course. If it is still too long I will look into a higher final drive maybe 4.7 or so..
Thanks
Again

Best bang for the buck mod IMHO. Everyone talks about more power, but putting that power down is more than half the battle.
EDIT: If you need help removing the tranny I did a writeup in the FAQ thread. The y7 will unbolt and the y8 will bolt right up.

Good deal Ricey I think you helped me when I was working on my turbo project. I can't remember now. I did a clutch and flywheel about 2 months ago so if the y8 tranny is straight bolt up I will be a happy camper. I will see about best bang for the buck. I was dissappointed with the y8 IM swap with the turbo setup. Not enough of a difference imho. I did it for the 2 wire iacv so I could go obdI for my hondata luckily it only took an hour......
