Default problem with cam install

Heres the scoop.. i bought a set of used toda b and vavle springs..
installed it and turned it manual on the crank.. the retainer was to be dead tight so no free play on the belt.... everything seem ok. so fired up the car.. the valves are clicking very loud.. almost like gatling gun.. have a buddy that has a simmilar set up his vavletrain sounds find just a bit louder then stock.. but on my car the sounds are much much louder.. anyone shed some light? and possible solutions?

you did use the angled feeler gauge when you set the lash right?

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by princeallure &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">one more thing how tight the timing belt retainer should be? cuz if I tighten to oem spec its ok but when i turn one rev the cams gears kinda jumps... my friend tells me they should be tighten so much so theres no free play on the timing belt</TD></TR></TABLE>

There should be about 1/2" to 1" of travel on the long side (front of engine).
