motor throwin code 8, tdc position, how do i fix it?
i was jus workin on my car an when i started it it thru code 8 which is top dead center position, what is this an how do i fix it? thanks
It's a sensor inside the distributor used along with the CYL and CKP sensors to coordinate fueling/timing events.
To troubleshoot, you will need a multimeter.
Basically you need to verify that the TDC sensor resistance is 350-700 ohms (distributor disconnected from main wire harness).
You need to make sure that either of the two TDC sensor wires aren't shorted to ground (with the distributor still disconnected from the main wire harness).
You need to make sure that the wires connecting the TDC sensor to the ECU aren't shorted either to ground (still disconnected).
You need to make sure that with the harness connected, you have the 350-700 ohms at the actual ECU connector.
And if all this checks out, then you need to replace your ECU, however, if the distributor bushing/bearing is worn to the point where its allowing the shaft to vibrate and send an odd signal to the ECU, you'll just have to replace the distributor sub-assembly ($250).
Thats the gist of it. I didn't provide pin #'s as you didn't provide engine/car/ECU info.
