Isn't there like a metal-locking liquid. Put some of that on so it holds good.

i'm getting mine down right now. i hear you only get one chance at it and if you **** up the block is ruined. so if you never done it b4 it might be a good idea to practice doing somewhere else first

Nah not that stuff its called Lock-thread I think. You can get sample packs of it at autoparts stores. But the stuff works. But I'm not to sure how it works under extreme temps. I'm not saying it won't but I'm not sure if it will. I've only used it like twice and it held up its really strong. use it on the helicoils NOT the head bolt.

I have to do one right now. We were torquing down the headbolts and one of them kept turning. This could really suck for me since its a fully built and sleeved 2 liter LS block. So I dropped it off at a decent machine in the area. Figure let the pros handle it.

Should work perfectly fine. A lot of high compression V8 guys puposely remove all the stock threads and replace them with helicoils.

http://www.emhart.com/products/helicoil.html

If you strip the threads out in a hole you can put a helicoil in there to replace the threads you stipped out.

Bump for an old *** thread.

Im having this same problem....can you actually insert a Heli-Coil down into the block like that? i thought it was for surface threads only?

I actually removed the old threads when i took out a head bolt. it looked like a helicoil itself stuck on the bolt! it wasnt, but i dont have to drill out the holes, only tap.

heli coils work fine, i personally would prefer just drilling out the old ones and taping in 1/2" threads and get some custom 1/2" studs from arp, but thats only becuz i have access to free machining

how?
This? http://www.etoolcart.com/time-sert-h...-kit-7111.aspx

You don't need that whole kit... it is really nice, but it has more than you need.
What's needed is the specific kit for the size you plan to do.
Buy the size you need and then a bag inserts.

Try contacting shops near you and they should have time-serts or heli-coils. It may come out to be around the same price to have somebody else do it since they may already have the kit you need. Worth checking into IMO

Question, since the Timeserts have lips on them, how would i be able to use them on a block if the thread doesnt start until like 2 inches into it?

Helicoils i know i can push all the way down there. I guess the thing that bothers me is that i was getting ready to sell this thing. I noticed a leak coming from the head/block and some white smoke so i changed the headgasket, hooked up a fan switch since mine was fualty. Now i noticed one of the head bolts wasnt tightening.

So yea, all of this just to sell it once im down. All i really need is longer head bolts, the "bottom of the thread" in the block will grab, just not the upper portion of the threads.

Alright, i picked up some individual (3) timeserts. 10x1.5, i know its bigger than the original head bolts BUT i picked up some 3' length 10x1.5 all thread, with nuts and washers. oh i got some lock-tite also.

Im pretty sure this is all i need to make this **** work finally.

King Bolt in Covina, CA is the ****, they have EVERYTHING you can imagine for hardware/electrical. very good prices also.
