Default should i build a whole motor, or just the top?

its kind of a long story, but the cliffs version is that needing new valve seals snowballed into the desire to build a new head instead - the question came about when i was talking to my friend and he said that if i put a rebuilt head on on an old block it will just make the block go out - if i get decent compression on the bottom am i wasting money putting a new head on? tia

The short answer is no. Doesn't sound like your friend knows what he's talking about.

as long as it's not knocking & still runs strong ie: no bad rings ect. then keep your oil changed you'll be happier than a puppy w/ two peters

yes, you should be good. BTW how many mile are on your motor right now? the only thing I'd check is the wear on the cylinder walls when you pull your head.

i would just do a mild build, such as a mild pnp and something like skunk2 stage 1 cams and the valvetrain if you want but not necessary. If you go overboard on the head then it wont do you much good cause your bottom end is stock.
