I a posting this for a buddy of mine. He has a b16 turbo running 8psi on a stock block(84K), He has just gotten done beating on it when it started smoking. It sound really ****ed up, we think a piston ring went bad. it sounds like a wrx. well anyways is the head still ok or is he going to need a new one?

 

the head is more then likely ok, take if off and check it to answer your own question....
the piston ringlands are probably broke......the wrx sound it a dead cyl, probably the one thats making it smoke.

 

yea that block is done lol. He has decided to send it into JGE buut, ne other opinions on the head??

 

the only way to tell is have a machine shop check it out to see if it's all within spec

 

how soon did you shut the motor off after it blew? if you pumped a bunch of oil filled with metal shavings through the head you might be in trouble....other than that you are not gonna get an accurate answer without more facts or some really,really good pictures...and even then, its gonna be hard to say without being able to see it in person

 

x2 if the motor was shut off quick it will be fine..but if your buddy was reving cause he thought it sounded cool he may have a problem...im using the same head that i broke 2 blocks with........
