Did a search on this and couldnt find answer. When i sawped out my d16z6 with a d16y8 motor could i leave my z6 ecu in??
What would be the main diff?
Or do i have to use the y8 ecu. A local shop told me i could keep in the z6 ecu.is it true?

 

z6 has a p28 which is OBD1 the Y8 is OBD2, Don't think its gonna work unless you do a OBD2 conversion.

 

Sorry I meant to say if your going to use the p28 with an OBD2 motor you will have to convert the motor to OBD1 or just get the OBD2 ecu, and sell your p28 which you can get a pretty penny for now

 

yes you can use a y8 engine with a z6 ecu. the wiring is slightly different if you use the y8 distributor, but it can be made to work easily. I used to run a 2000 y8 in my 94 lx with 94 p28 ecu.

 

Run a D15B7 or other obd-1 compatible distributor and you can use the Z6 ecu.

Hmmmmm.....I use a Y8 distributor in my Y8 with P28 ecu conversion. I thought it was if you were using an OBDII ecu on an OBDI engine that you needed to swap to an OBDII distributor.

 

the problem is the wiring plug/harness part of the obdII distributor will not match properly with the obdI engine wiring harness.

so, this guy can either run an obdI distributor, or correct the wiring on the obdII distributor and run that.

That doesn't make any sense. With my OBDII -&gt; I conversion harness it just adapted the ecu plugs to fit the harness in the car. I didn't have to change wiring in the engine bay.

He has an OBD-1 car with an OBD-1 ECU and OBD-2 motor though...he's still using the OBD-1 engine and dash harness.

 

aah its all fuzzy right now, its too far back. the important part is that an obdII dist will work with a p28 ecu.

just check the wiring on the distributor.

the more I think about it, I seem to remember the wiring having to do with the tach I believe. so you might not have to change anything to actually get it running.

anyway, to answer your question, yes you can do that. I know because I did it. I can at least remember that much
