Default holding rotor still to removal axle nut

What are different technique to hold the rotor still to removal the axle nut? Should I put the gear in neutral cuz I heard it is bad for the tranny.

My haynes recommends putting a pry bar between the rotor's studs to stop it from moving but won't that hurt the threads since a lot of torque is going to to be apply to the axle nut?

put the wheel back on
put the car on the ground
have at it with a 36MM and a air gun or a breakerbar/torquebar and have a heavy friend bounce on it.

You can also get a person to apply the brakes without the wheel on if you can't put the 36mm nut into the hole at the center of the wheel.

been there done that, and i had real funn turning the wheels no matter what gear and what brakes are on teh car if it is a tough nut to get off.

i would break that nut with either a massive impact gun, or leave it on the ground with the wheel and weight of the car to hold it in place.
