I have always used an impact but just make sure to bend out the part of the nut that is punched in to keep it from spinning off. Usually that is where those ******* get hung up.

I haven't heard of any way to replace wheels studs without pulling the hub off the knuckle.

I'm surprised you haven't gone through a couple breaker bars already trying to get it off. But even a basic air gun will get it off. Just bend the part of the nut that is punched in by using a flat head screw driver.
