Default H22 Redline?

I was researching the H22a that comes in the 1998 Prelude 5-spd (195hp).

From what I understand, the redline is 7400rpm but the fuel cut is not until somewhere around 8000rpm. My question was....... is it safe to rev it past 7400rpm? I know it is useless to rev it up higher than 7400rpm because peak power is at 7200rpm, but I just wanted to know for information purposes. Thanks.

pretty sure the powerband ends at 7300. i presonally wouldent go any higher than say 7400. its not worth the bent valve clatter and labor.

I realize that it is useless to rev that high...... that's why I wrote:

I guess I'm asking this: Will it damage valves to go past 7400? Also, when you say the tach is off by 400.... You mean it's actually revving to 7800 but just says 7400?

there is a pretty good chance that you are and or risk bending, floating valves reving anyhigher. valvetrain cant hang. but if you know its pointless to rev any higher than your powerband, why ask this question to begin with?

Because it seems illogical to set the rev limit that much higher than the redline. I was under the impression that rev limiters were designed to prevent you from over-revving. I think it's odd to set the rev limiter 500rpm past redline. In my old car it was set at 200rpm past the redline. I also kinda just wanted to know for information purposes. I would think that you want to know how much stress your engine can handle even if you don't plan on dishing all that stress out.

Oh, and what's the deal with the tach being off by 400rpm?

redline 7400
revlimiter 7800

question answered. this may not match your tach.
