He mentioned maybe using a screwdriver with vicegrips to turn it with the little hook left in there.. I can't get mine out like that though just not working
Well mainly I'm wondering can I drive it like this and any ideas on getting it out? I'm afraid it means taking the head off which I don't want to do on my own.. which means $$$ for someone to do it *sigh*.
Thanks, Nick

Wow dude. I hate stupid things like that....something so simple, yet so hard to fix.
Anyway, DO NOT drive it like that. Not good for your motor running on an odd number of cylinders like that. Take a light and shine it down there. See if there is anything you can grab onto. If there is enough on there, and since you didn't torque it down too hard, see if you can tap a smaller socket into it. Then unscrew it that way.
Worst case, you might have to remove the head. Sucks....but it's not THAT hard to do. It's just time consuming and a pain in the ***.
Good luck.

I was also thinking about the same thing with a smaller socket but I don't have a long enough extension for smaller sockets to fit down in there. Wow this really sucks.

Hehe....I guess you CAN.
You'd be running on 3 cylinder though.
Might be better (just safety of mind for you) to just throw it in neutral and push it out and back into the driveway out of your dad's way.

Assuming the insulator came out with the plug, you should be able to get a screw proper sized screw extractor in there and get the rest of the plug out.

Whew I actually managed to take a really long Phillips head screwdriver.. wedge it down inside using a rubber mallet, then pressed down as hard as I could with my arm and turn it.. and the sucker came out with not too much effort. I threw an old plug in there and I'll go get another NGK tommorrow when the auto parts store is back open.
Of course.. I'll be extra sure not to over-torque the next one.
BTW- Thanks for the advice, appreciate it!

A friend of mine did this in his LS motor in a EG hatch... We tried everything possible from the top with the head on, but in the end had to remove the head and thread it out from the bottom...
