i put on a new LS oil pan gasket last night. put some hondabond thinly on the edges of the oil on both sides of the oil pan gasket and tightened up the oil pan. now im gettin some minor leaks on the thin side of the oil pan. its not leaking bad... but theres an obvious leak, mainly on the corner. oil is getting on the flywheel. what did you do to help stop the leak? did you take off the oil pan again and re-do it? im wondering if i can do a quick fix and maybe put more hondabond on the edges without taking off the oil pan again.

 

Did you overtorque the bolts and/or did you tighten them in the correct order?

 

Most people use a bead of hondabond around the edge AND a new gasket, afaik.

 

nah, we didnt overtorque it. we made sure to do it in sequence. i think the hondabond wasnt evenly spread or something. its leaking like a ****. i drove it down the street and there was a puddle from start to finish. if someone followed the oil leaks, it would lead right to my driveway.

yeah, i should try a "bead" of hondabond on the edges.

 

Well do what it takes until it works, if all else fail.....use duct tape

i was thinkin about using jb weld. lol

 

Some times on that end a metal ring for the two bolts on the end of the pan will stick to the block or the pan. If you didn't remove it then you bend the pan and cause a bad leak on that end. (did it last week)

metal rings? what metal rings? lol

 

in side the gasket there are 2 metal rings by the flywheel side of the gasket. sometimes they seperate from inside the gasket and stick to the pan or the block. Not saying it is your problem but, It happens

 

oh ok. cool. whats a good way to take off the hondabond besides scraping, rubbing, or peeling it off. i gotta get working on it today.

 

scrap it off lightly sorry if the info is to late. Don't use alot of hondabond i used none and mine isn't leaking. The other techs in my shop also told me that rubber gasket arn't always helped with sealent.

yeah, there are cases where the spread of hondabond offsets the flatness of the gasket creating curves in the gasket because of the uneveness.
