Boost timing issues
I just got my turbo setup done. I am only running a 12:1 fmu, walbro 255hp intank and msd btm. Wastegate is opening at 6 psi. It is a t3/t4 50 trim on a stock b16a obd-0. The issues I am having are with the btm. I was always under the impression that the more timing retard you run the less power you'd have. I have seen alot of base maps on various ecu and I remember the base retard being around .5-.6 degrees per psi. If I run around .5 it is good. If I go anymore then .5 it starts to hesitate at higher rpm. The more I adjust the worse it is. Can anyone explain why this happens?? what causes it? I know the ecu option is alot better for boost because the fact you can tune the retard per psi and per rpm and the btm is just a very very basic form of timing control.
