Default Head Comparison A6 (PM3) vs. Z6 (P08) vs. Y8 (P2J)

Like the title says what head would you choose for your 1.6 buildup and why? I know there have been numerous debates on the Z6 vs. Y8 head but why has everyone left the A6 head out, just cause it doesn't have Vtec?

Let's see what everyone has to say, also please give any input on not just stock heads by PnP and upgraded heads too!

thanks

heh, you're talking about my car then. j/k it's not that nasty and will idle fine...sometimes... a6 for life yeah.

I don't really see the point swapping over to a z6 or y8 head, too much extra stuff you gotta do, more $$ etc, not as big of a power output... now with the a6, take the money of the head swap, get a good p&p, cam, some high compression pistons, you'll me killing the mini-me with a p&p and a cam etc all day long. the z6 and y8 cams are limited because of vtec, the a6 you can get a nice big cam for hence making more power than a built mini-me.

if you were to go turbo, stick with the a6 as well, takes the complications of tuning with vtec outa the equation as well and still make as much hp.

and yeah, you're right...everyone leaves the a6 out cuz it doesn't have vtec. vtec is day **** yO! haha.

d16z6 and y8 heads have bigger valves and smaller combustion chambers than the A6.

Z6 > Y8 > A6

Ha, if your gonna go sohc na, your better off using a vtec head, cause well, you can have crazy top end, and well, a nice idle. If your gonna spend the money, why not. Theres no advantage using the a6 over the z6 or y8, in fact, its a disadvantage, and theres tons of cams out there for teh sohc vtec's now...

If I still had a d-series in my car I'd definitely bump the compression upto 11 or so and throw on a sohc vtec head. It's always nice to have the blessing of nasty cams with the luxury of good fuel consumption and good idle.

If you build your a6 right (wish good CR and vtec) you can have a little motor in there that will make heads turn.

Seriously, add another 1000 or 1500 rpms to your rev line and another 15-25hp to your powerband you're gonna ALOT more fun with that car! And you can do all this for under 1000$ I believe.

As much as I like the A6 heads, the VTEC stuff has WAAAAYYYY more of an aftermarket. The A6 motor is great with JDM ZC pistons though...

has anyone put an A6 head on a Vtec block to get less compression? Would this be a good setup for turbo, you wouldn't use the Vtec anyways in a turbo application.

Go for a Y8 head...rumored to "not flow as much" as a stock Z6 but with a port/polish job a Y8 will flow just as good as a P/P Z6. PLUS...if you look at the combustion chambers of a Y8 as opposed to the Z6 you'll notice some nice quench areas on teh sides mean to reduce detonation. This means you can get more compression with a more lean mixture = more power.

Here's mine

I'm going straight to 12:1 with my build, even with just a VAFC pump gas will be doable as long as you tune it right.
