golden eagle lsvtec dowl pins anyone using them ?
i just bought a set the other day and they do not fit in the head or block. its a steped dowl pin that is supost to keep you from drilling the head for ls dowl location. but to use them ill have to drill the head and block. i could always try and sand them smaller but should i have to. anyhelp would be great. p.s. ive built 5 lsvtec motors and am using the correct holes.

but then again my engine is completely stock

Try putting the dowel pins into where the head studs go. I had the same problem but realized later that I wasn't putting them in the right place. Head stud holes worked out fine.

ive tryed to fit the small end of the dowl into every hole in the head and it doesnt fit any except the orignal dowl holes ,and there it is way to big. if i turn the dowl around to the big side it wont fit into the original dowl hole either( its to big to fit in the hole) . there isnt an H style lsvtec dowl pin setup they could of sent me is there.
It doesn't fit in the original dowel pin hole. Do you see where your head studs or your head bolts would fit? That's where they go. Fit very nicely with my AEBS head studs as well.
I had some experience with these recently. We found that they fit in the front outer holes where the head bolts go. I think it was the small side. The problem was we tryed using the LS head gasket and they wouldnt fit thru there. The guy who owned the car went down to acura and was going to buy the gsr head gasket he claimed they fit fine thru there but he stopped short when he realized the gsr head gasket looked very diff. He felt really samll when I pointed out that we are using the gsr head so whats the big deal hehe. He ended up drilling the head and using stock LS dowel pins. He drilled the holes too shallow and had an instant head gasket leak as he was adding water to the radiator...he has since sold the car.
I found it truly sad when we questioned the shop who sold us the pins and they said they did not know what combo worked they just sold the parts. So they sold us something they didnt even know if it worked or not. Part of buying from a shop is you pay for their experience with things and it just wasnt there. I can understand if this was just a one off thing nobody has really done but this is a common mod that quite a few people have done including one of the guys in their shop!! He said they always just drill the heads. This was but one of the issues that really pissed me off about this whole "import scene" thing. I have been a part of this since 94-95 (back in cali) or before and I have yet to really do much here in Dallas as far as working on hondas and stuff but I sent my guy to go buy a JDM motor from a local shop. I called and asked for a b20 they said they had one so i sent him down there. Now the price gradualy went up everytime we asked them what the price was. We ended up ppaying $150 over what I was originally quoted on the phone. He brought the motor back and it was b20a1!!!!! grrrrrrr. So he takes it back and they want to charge him a restocking fee of like 30%!! I know this is semi common but they can make exceptions..so I tell them to order the correct b20 and the guy doenst want to do it. So we says crew it and he finally goes back and pays more moeny to get a JDM ls motor. We just wanted a good bottom end that was already assembled with low miles. So we tore that engine down and it was a POS> It had a bosch oil filter on it!!!! Since when do they sell bosch oil filters in japan!!!!???? We suspect they sold him a core engine for the same price as a good used JDM motor. The bores were all shiny and looked like it had been run low on oil. Most of the cross hatch was worn off the cylinders which is a sure sign of wear. Anyway this combo of events really turned me off to do any kind of honda work local or supporting any of the local shops. I cant believe the whole scene has gotten to the point where they just rip people off left and right. So sad... Now part of this was my guy was doing all the buying and he is still kind of young yet but not that young. Things may have been diff. if I was the one doing the buying and all.
sorry for the rant but this needed to be said and it was directly related to our LS/vtec project.

This seems to be a problem with alot of shops. To let you ALL know, these dowel pins work great, but there has to be some minor work done to the gasket to make them work. Also, ALL of our gaskets have this dowel hole opened up so you have to do NO machining. Plus you can get them in ANY bore size!

you might have to drill out the headgasket holes, but dont have to drill anything on the block itself.

I used a set this weekend, the only thing I didnt like is that theres no way to line up the gasket, like a stock dowl does.. Or I just did it wrong..lol
I just got some for my lsvtec project.
-they fit fine in the exhaust side of the LS block, small side down.
-the GSR headgasket slipped right over the dowel pins, right over the big ends.
-easy as pie but I'm pissed that I paid $30 shipped for them, since at my work I could make these for $2 each or for like 0.5 cents if we ran 10,000 pieces... ! aaargh!
I didnt want to use them in the LS block's original dowel pin holes, big end down, because the big end of the pin stuck out above the deck... so the GSR headgasket didnt fit too flush.
I dont know what problems you cats are having that you cant work around, it says right on golden eagles site that some headgasket modification may be required depending on which one you use....
