Default tricky dilemma, car wont move

i just swapped a b18b engine into my hatch. i changed the clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, etc.. when i changed it, i rotated the transmission just to make sure it works, and the axles did spin. i did bleed the clutch line, and theres a good amount of pressure on the clutch pedal, however there is about an inch or 2 of slack before there is pressure on it. so heres my problem, engine runs and starts good, tranny goes into every gear smoothly, new clutch, but theres no power getting to the wheels. i can leave the car in gear, while idling and theres no signs of stress since theres no power transferring from the engine to the clutch.

seems like the clutch isnt engaged to me, but i dont understand why. i know installed the clutch correctly, and it is aligned. could it be anything to do with the clutch lines and pedal??

That's wierd. Did you notice anything about the clutch when you installed it? The hub of the clutch disk was OK? The splines of the tranny input shaft fit properly into the hub?

How about the shift linkage? Maybe you aren't really putting it in gear?

im not sure if you are familiar but the master cylinder is under your clutch pedal, try adjusting that out till the free play is down to about an inch and maker sure the fork on the transmission is moving freely and one thign is you may ahve isntalled the disc backwards. hope that helps

its a brand new clutch so there wasnt nothing special to look at, nothing out of the ordinary. when you shift, you can hear it going into each gear in the tranny.

ill try to play with the master cylinder under the pedal now, and when i installed the clutch, there was a thick side to the clutch , and a thin side. i put the thick side into the pressure plate, making the this side face the flywheel.

ill update in a couple minutes about adjusting the slave cylinder under the pedal

did you resurface the flywheel? did you get any oil/synthetics/grease on your clutch disk? if you did then that is most likely your problem. you can't get any grease or oil on the clutch disk cuz it will slip. so if you did then just go buy another clutch disk cuz the one you got is gone.

flywheel wasnt resurfaced, used brake parts cleaner on the flywheel, about 3 mins later i put the clutch on.

there is something new i noticed, the speedometer is rising as i rev the engine. i really hope this transmission is not shot.

The speedo reads off the final drive, so that means the clutch is OK.

Run it & watch the axles. If a spline is stripped out at an outboard CV joint, the axle would spin, but it wouldn't drive the wheel. If not, take out the axles & check out the splines at the inboard end of the axles. If they're not stripped out, then it looks like your differential is broken.

Well that makes it sound more like an internal tranny problem, but you're not gonna know for sure until you take it out & see.
