Default b16 in a 96 ex with a gsr ecu?

my friends car has a b16 ( i want to say obd1 ) with a gsr ecu. we checked the numbers and that is what it is. the car runs but throws a couple of codes once in a wile? wtf? can i put a p30 ecu in and just call it good?

a 96 would be obd2 unless he has a jumper harness. I would say get a jumper harness and put a p30 or chipped p28 and see what happens

probably 2ndary butterfly and baro sensor codes right?
get a conversion harness to go obd1 and throw the p30 in there
